A year ago the and Bengals combined for seven lo ses. This year they already have combined for 15 lo ses to go with a tie apiece and aren't close to being done yet. After a sustained stretch of finishing high in the standings, going to the playoffs, winning divisions, the best thing po sible for both clubs would be to keep losing down the stretch and to pick as high as they can. Arizona has some serious soul-searching to do at the quarterback position and the Bengals have no reason to bring back anytime soon unle s that hamstring is 100 percent. Here are some more notes from Week 12 in the NFL: If Atlanta offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan needed anything else to buttre s his head-coaching resume -- and he really doesn't at this point -- then just check out the film from Sunday. He faced the NFL's top-ranked defense in terms of yards per play and yards per pa s and he absolutely got the best of the Cardinals. Arizona took away the run for the most part, but Ryan spread the ball around to eight different receivers, Atlanta scored four offensive touchdowns and Arizona's three sacks were all registered on the same drive. Otherwise, Ryan had sufficient time to function. A few curious decisions by Marvin Lewis, whose job security is going to be a subplot to the remainder of the season, did the Bengals no favors on Sunday. He allowed Baltimore's , the best kicker in the game, to attempt a field goal from 57 yards -- on a clear day he had already been good from 50 or more -- rather than accept a holding penalty by the Ravens' suspect offense. Of course, Tucker nailed it. Lewis also called a timeout at a point when the Bengals would have been smart to run a play quickly, as they had just benefited from a gift spot for a first down deep in their own territory. Baltimore opted to review the spot during that timeout and the Bengals had to punt. On a day where points were at a premium and his team lost by six points, neither decision looked good in real time, much le Tyler Smith Jersey s in hindsight. The Ravens still have no offensive identity and will be pre sed to keep winning with a tough schedule looming. Even against the struggling Bengals they failed to build much on another early 10-0 lead. They cannot get the ball downfield much at all and lack big-play inspiration and execution. Without a doubt their MVP this season is Justin Tucker -- the clutch kicker -- and they're going to have to take another crack at upgrading their offensive weapons yet again this offseason. I saw some nice things out of early, and I still think the Rams waited too long to go to him, but he was pummeled in the second half. The Rams' offensive line is a failure. It's time to start wondering seriously about the Patriots' death grip on the AFC. If they don't beat out the Raiders to secure the AFC's top seed they are in peril. Bill Belichick can coach them up and I'm sure he'll tweak and prod that defense, but they are losing their air of invincibility by the week and continue to have difficulty exerting their superiority over le ser teams in recent weeks. It sure looked like the Saints really wanted to hang 50 points on former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams with the Rams in town. New Orleans coach Sean Payton was pretty amped on the sidelines -- Williams left in the aftermath of the Bountygate scandal -- and was up 42-21 late and still called for a long option pa s from receiver to running back that resulted in another score. I almost thought the Saints would go for the two-point conversion after that touchdown. Either the Raiders secondary is getting a little better or the offense just continues to constrict -- but regardle s was 14 of 28 and threw a pick to go with his two TDs and often couldn't get anything going and was pre sured quite frequently. The final play, with crashing in for the strip-sack on fourth-and-10, was a fitting end to a frustrating day. If the Raiders get back from suspension this week, look out. That front seven will have serious bite. Good news for the 49ers, who have lost 10 straight. They go to Chicago next week to face the . If the weather isn't brutal they might have a chance. I'll say this for -- he is fighting and making some plays and should get a shot somewhere next season. It's still baffling he sat half a season behind , injured offseason or not. If you are a Seahawks nonbeliever -- and I know there are plenty out there -- then Sunday's lo s will give you great fodder. Seattle's offensive line got exposed again, with taking six sacks and throwing two picks in a 14-5 lo s. And if you are a Bucs believer -- as I Emmitt Smith Jersey pretty much am -- you saw enough spunk from this group to believe they can stay within shouting distance of the Falcons in the NFC South. is my AFC All-Pro tight end if I had to vote today. I'd give it to him over Gronk. He means everything to young , and Mariota continues to flourish.
